Majlis Ash-Shura (مجلس الشورى) can be translated to mean 'the consultative body or council.'

Allah (Glory be to Him) commands Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in surah 3, ayah 159: And consult them in all matters of public concern. Therefore, shura/consultation is part of the Prophetic sunnah. Shared interests should be mutually agreed upon.

The Majlis Ash-Shura of the Delaware Valley began in 1990, after noticing the need for Philadelphia area Imams to consult with one another, to avoid confusion, disunity, and a lack of direction.
Even though the official name of the organization is The Majlis Ash-Shura of the Delaware Valley, over the past three decades it has been called: the philly majlis, The Majlis, The Philadelphia Majlis Ash-Shura, etc.

The Majlis is organized as a non-profit 501(c)3 in the state of Pennsylvania. It comprises of different masaajid (Islamic places of worship) throughout the Delaware Valley, along with other community stakeholders. The necessary work of the Majlis is performed by its standing committees and three office holders. Currently, the President of the Majlis is Imam Farid Rasool. The Secretary is Brother Bashir, and the treasurer is Imam Nadir Asadi.
Amongst other tasks, the Majlis hosts a monthly general meeting, which is open to the public. Towards the end of the meeting, people from the community can present their pressing concerns, suggestions, and ideally, their sincere efforts, in order for community stakeholders to be consulted on matters of public concern. Please join us in our continued effort to have a more comprehensive and thorough consultative meeting. InshaaAllah, below is when the meetings are scheduled. The location of the next meeting is usually determined at the end of each current meeting. Please contact your area Masjid or email the Majlis Ash-Shura for the exact location for an upcoming meeting, or continue to check for an update on this website: Email - info@phillymajlis.com/ Website - phillymajlis.com
