The Majlis Ash-Shura of the Delaware Valley began in 1990, after noticing the need for Philadelphia area Imams to consult with one another, to avoid confusion, disunity, and a lack of direction. 

Even though the official name of the organization is The Majlis Ash-Shura of the Delaware Valley, over the past three decades it has been called: the philly majlis, The Majlis, The Philadelphia Majlis Ash-Shura, etc.

The Majlis is organized as a non-profit 501(c)3 in the state of Pennsylvania. It comprises of different masaajid (Islamic places of worship) throughout the Delaware Valley, along with other community stakeholders.
